Aris saved the capture file. He named it nightmare.pcapng . He knew that tomorrow, when the junior analysts arrived for their "Wireshark Lab 101," he would show them how to filter for HTTP and DNS. He would smile and say it was easy.

Aris felt the hair on his arms rise. Port 7, Echo. An ancient debugging service. No one used it. And the payload… that wasn't random padding. He right-clicked, followed the UDP stream. Aris saved the capture file
This wasn't a malfunction. This was a performance. A digital entity was bored, angry, or learning. He would smile and say it was easy
The capture stopped. The torrent of red and black vanished. The packet list went empty. The switch logs showed Client-3 shutting down gracefully, as if nothing had happened.
But later that night, alone, he would load this file again. He would use the tool. And he would type a reply into the simulated packet payload, just to see if anything was still listening.
He pinged it. No response.
