That’s the thing about the word “taken.” It implies loss — but also preservation.

So here’s to 2008. The year I learned that even when life takes from you, you can still take the shot. taken 2008

wasn’t just the year I clicked a shutter button. It was the year things were taken from me. And the year I took things back.

A job I loved? Taken. An apartment I couldn’t afford anymore? Gone. A version of myself that believed in a certain kind of future? Disappeared into the financial crash like everyone else’s 401(k). April 14, 2026 That’s the thing about the word “taken

I came across an old folder on my hard drive today, simply labeled:

I see a friend’s living room floor where I crashed for three months. I see a birthday cake made from a box mix. I see late nights laughing because rent was late but we were young enough not to panic. wasn’t just the year I clicked a shutter button
