Problem it solves: Stratum 2 has multiple subfamilies (Stratum 2 Thin, Light, Regular, Medium, Bold, Black) and possibly separate display vs. text cuts. Without an optical size axis, users manually pick a weight for headlines and a lighter weight for body text — but the letter spacing, x-height, and stroke contrast aren't optimized for long reading.
