A wet laugh escaped Kai. Then dread crept in. “You said ‘don’t let them wipe the server.’ Who’s ‘them’?”
The blue fairy lights flickered red. Leo’s ghostly avatar looked over his shoulder, toward the in-game basement door. It was splintering. “You always were a terrible ghost hunter,” Leo messaged
“What the hell, Leo…” Kai whispered.
He clicked.
A voice crackled through his headset. Not in-game audio. It came from the server itself, deep and layered with static.
