The survey results revealed that the majority of respondents (80%) downloaded the movie "Dhoom" due to the lack of availability of the movie in theaters. Other reasons cited included the ease of access to pirated copies online (75%), the low cost of downloading (60%), and the poor quality of official releases (40%). The most popular sources for downloading the movie were torrent sites (85%), followed by streaming sites (10%), and social media platforms (5%).

Several studies have examined the issue of movie piracy and illicit downloading. According to a study by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), movie piracy results in significant economic losses for the film industry, with estimated losses of over $29 billion in 2019 alone. Another study by the Pew Research Center found that 72% of internet users aged 18-29 reported downloading or streaming pirated content in 2019.

The study concludes that illicit downloading of Tamil movies, including "Dhoom", is a significant challenge for the film industry. The ease of access to pirated copies online and the lack of availability of movies in theaters are major factors contributing to this phenomenon. Effective measures, such as strict enforcement of copyright laws and the promotion of legitimate streaming services, are needed to curb illicit downloading and support the growth of the film industry.
