Select Properties from the menu.
In the new window, select the icon you want to change (e.g., Recycle Bin (full) ). change icons on desktop
Right-click it and select Show more options (Windows 11) → Send to → Desktop (create shortcut) . Select Properties from the menu
Right-click the icon → Properties → Change Icon... → Select the first/default icon → OK . change icons on desktop
Find the original app in the Start Menu or File Explorer.
On the new desktop shortcut, follow Part 1 above to change its icon. Part 3: Change System Icons (This PC, Recycle Bin, Network) This method changes the main icons Windows places on your desktop by default. For Windows 11: Step 1: Right-click an empty area of your desktop and select Personalization .
