Alien Quest V1.01 [new] Direct

I’m not talking about a prototype. I’m talking about a point-one patch from 1987. Last week, at a dusty flea market in Ohio, I found a loose gray cartridge with a peeling sticker that simply read: Alien Quest v1.01 .

Level three in the retail game is a grey space station. In v1.01, level three is a field of tall, swaying grass under a binary sunset. There are no enemies for the first 90 seconds. Just wind sounds. Then, you realize the grass is the enemy. The collision detection is so tight that you feel every brush against the flora damage you. It’s beautiful, quiet, and lethal. Why did they cut this? alien quest v1.01

Stay retro.

Alien Quest v1.01 is not "better" than the final version. It’s broken, unfair, and the frame rate drops to single digits whenever you fire the plasma rifle. But it has soul . I’m not talking about a prototype

It feels like the developers built a horror game, and the publisher sanded off the edges to sell it as an action game. Level three in the retail game is a grey space station

Here are the three things I discovered after plugging this cursed thing into my retro-rig.
