The DD5.1 audio is the rip’s saving grace. Even in this compressed state, the infected’s howls and John Murphy’s sparse, aching piano chords create genuine tension. Just don’t expect the visceral punch of the original.

As for the film itself: 28 Years Later has moments of Boyle/Garland’s signature dread, but the urgency of 28 Days Later and the kinetic rage of 28 Weeks Later have faded into weary sequel syndrome. The new cast tries hard (kudos to the child actor playing the first post-Rage generation), but the plot — survivors in a walled-off London, a cult treating the virus as divine judgment — feels recycled.
